I understand that I need to bring tax returns of the last five years to the interview.

Can some one clarify what IRS form to bring? Form 4506 or IRS letter 1772.

How can I order 1772 letter? I searched through IRS’ website but cannot find the link. 4506 can be requested on the website.

Thanks.

I called IRS for my Tax return, and they have sent me Transcript of my last 5 years Tax return. Is this good for Naturalization interview? Please advise. Thanks

Its advisable to take this to your closest IRS office and get it offically endorsed...... I did that under advice from attorney

Can some one confirm this?

Use 4506 or 1-800 number to request the past 5 years’ tax return transcripts.

The transcript itself is called IRS letter 1772. 4506 is a form to request letter 1772.

1772 is not required to be stamped. IRS won’t stamp it anyway per Hm11’s experience.

Therefore, un-stamped 1772 is sufficient as filing tax return proof for interview.

Thanks.

Tax Returns- Transcripts 1772

applyfor citizen,
According to me , your interpretations are very correct . There has been so much discussion on this subject but still much confussion prevailed. The phone no. and link given by Rahulkumar are useful, instructions to form 4506 are very clear and simple.
Hence I feel your summary is the best guideline for all .

Still confused with Tx Transcript 1722

In the above URL, P8085 mentioned that with the correct software anyone can reproduce Transcript of Tax return, HM11 stated his experience with IRS, who wouldn't stamp the Transcript because it was issued on IRS letter head. I still cann't conclude anything from these two different opinion. Can someone clarify the issue. Thanks

I got it stamped/endorsed at the local IRS office ! I honestly dont think there is a big issue here. Go with what they give you, if they refuse to stamp, then so be it.

I think it all depends on the person looking at it in the IRS. In my point of view it is an overkill to get the official transcripts stamped. When I visited my local IRS office, Two people looked at it and they said why you need a stamp on the official transcripts (already printed on the IRS letterhead).
One thing we can do is to take our personal copies of tax return and show our date of filing or if you have a recipet from Post office showing your mailing date of tax return. I think that should be enough.

Change in Tax Transcript form

Hi:

As of Feb 2004, it seems that the IRS form to request Tax TRANSCRIPTS is form 4506-T. The form to request Tax RETURNS still remains 4506.

Also, per form 4506-T, IRS now provides transcripts having only THREE years of tax data, as opposed to the required FIVE years.

Is there a workaround to obtain FIVE years of tax transcripts.
Gurus please advise. Thanks

Hi,

I called today (800-829-1040), and automated system lets one order upto 10 years of transcripts free of charge. I ordered for five years. Only thing is we have to give individual year one after the other, cannot give a range. After entering the year, it would prompt whether I need another transcript. I think it is straight forward. Good luck.

Update to mgh2001

Hi,

Sorry to all, I did not want to start a new thread.

mgh2001, you were right. Received today an interview letter dated Feb 23. Good luck to you too.
