140 query Please Help

My H1B expires in September 2008, my 140 was applied in September 2007 and currently in process. I have been laid off by my employer and would like to know if I will be still able to use the existing 140 filed by my employer.

Or if there are any other options if I would like to stay longer here.

My case:
Perm labor applied in Aug 2007
Perm labor approved in Sep 2007
Filed for I-140 in Sep 2007
6th year H1B expires in Sep 2008

One possible option is to obtain a new employment ASAP and extend the H-1B based on the previous PERM Labor Certification. you need the employer's co-operation here. Later if the I-140 gets approved, you can re-capture the priority date in your GC process by your future employer.
