Has anyone else waited 14 weeks and not receiving the passport yet?
I've applied on May11 routine service but didn't receive it yet. I am traveling to Canada for the labor day weekend and i hope to receive it before then.

I don't see a lot of people here opting for routine service but I know someone who applied back in mid-April who got his passport recently. And so yeah routine service is taking 3-4 months.

As for your trip to Canada as long as you return by the end of September you should be able to enter the US with a proof of passport application (including by air).

I'm traveling by bus. From what i've heard is that you can enter US with proof of application if you are traveling by airplane only. Anyway, i don't wanna take chances and prefer to use the passport. Two days ago i called the national passport center and they said that if 14 weeks (this friday) before your travel you don't receive it they will make it expedited and ship it overnight if necassry.

Good luck, hope you get the passport on time, but as mentioned you should still be able to go to Canada without passport, specially as you're going to cross a land border.

I was curious if there had been any difference in processing speed for routine service. It seems there hasn't been any difference. It is crazy that a passport takes four months. In my book a passport should be same day, or at most one day. That should be the goal.

With the current situation I would opt for routine service if it took 6 weeks, but not 14, so I guess I will RELUCTANTLY have to pay the expedited fee. It's just plain WRONG!

I think expedited processing goes pretty fast where you are (I remember seeing quite a few posts by people on the West Coast who got their passport in 10 days or less). Here on the East Coast it is taking some people 6 weeks to get their passport even with expedited service !

ff1972,

A friend of mine just received her passport last month. It took almost 17 weeks to receive!

This morning the status says "we finished processing your passport and it has been mailed to you" I called them up and they've said that it was sent with Fedex yesterday and i should receive it today. Even that on their website it says that it was sent priority mail. I called Fedex to make sure and they said that its on delivery today. Wow finally my wait is over. Do you think that they would send they naturlaiztion certificate separately? i've read couple of osts that said that

kagemusha, thanks for your reply. Let's see how it goes with our application. I'll do it expedited. I don't have a real pressing need until December.

ff1972. Unfortunately it is anybody's guess. It seems some applications are sent to a remote facility for printing, and those are the ones that come separate. I don't know if there is any method to this madness ;) I don't know if certain regions are handled in the same spot and others do remote printing. Let us know how it works for you.

Normal Passport Processing

I sent off a renewal recently via normal processing with express mail return. The express mail was not to make a difference in time, but to have a tracking number in case I dont get it and the agency says it did send out. Plus it may bypass the ordinary mail queue. Will find out in a few months if it helped or hurt...

Finally the passport has arrived together with the naturalization certificate. Amazingly the package didn't require signature containing such important documents. It seems that 13-14 weeks are the time frame for routine service. Good luck everybody
