1 Year Vs 10 Year Visa

I recently applied for my parents tourist visa to the US.

I work here full time (H-1), however, the visa was sponsored by my brother-in-law who is in the last stage of getting a green card.

My parents got a visa for 1 year not 5 or 10 year, we were anticipating a 10 year visa. My question is what determines the length of the granted visa?

What could be the reason that they were not granted a 10 year VISA?

Thanks,
Richie

..... and thats why we are here in this world.

so you want to understand the mystries of the visa pocess well it might be easier to understand a woman's thought process or answer the mystery of our existance

Long and short of tis is that, we dont really know but can guess. That the VO was in a generous mood(or bad one, depends on how u look at it). The result is that your parents can visit you anytime before this stam expires. and if they get back timely ater this visit, and the visa expires they will have to make another visit o the consulate to get a new stamp.

The key is that they visit for no more than 6 months or whatever they are granted at the POE. No extensions.
They should preserve all documentation of their travel. copies of I-94, boarding passes etc. When dearting make sure they perform all exit visa requirements at the airport and submit their I-94 to the appropriate authority.

Before trying for stamp again they should wait for a reasonable time back home before trying for a visa again. Preferable after a year's stay but minimum 6 months.

Hopefully next time they will get 10 yr visa

Good Luck
have fun with your parents and enjoy mom-cooked meals for some time

Wishing them safe journey.
