Here is my story, hope this helps many of you folks to make decisions :
Labour - applied 12/01/2000, approved 12/18/2000
I-140 applied 03/01/2001, approved 06/13/01
After 140 I thought CP is the best way to get green card, hence corresponded with Consulate to take up my case, they agreed then I sent AC-I-140 ( Attorney Certified), I had to do this since I had not opted for Consular Processing while filing I-140.
I kept calling Chennai consulate but no response finally in Nov 2001 after loosing 5 months I thought I will adjust status here in the USA. Meanwhile I had already filed I-824 ( Change of intent from status adjustment in the US to adjust status at a overseas consulate) This was approved on Nov 2001. Inspite of this approval we went ahead and filed 485. I had asked my attorney to send a fax stating the change of intent, I am not sure if he did it ??
Finally applied I-485 on 11/19/01
Notice Date : 11/26/02
FP = 04/09/02
RFE = 08/08/01 ( EL, 6 months Pay stubbs, W2)
AVM Changed to RFE Received = 08/19/02
Category - EB2
APPROVED = 08/23/02
If I had filed 485 in June I would get the green card by Dec 01 which is 12 months from the date of filing labour.
Due to my mistake it took 16 Months from Start to Finish.
