gc expired

Hello, My green card expired and I didnt apply for renewal on time. I was eligible for natrualization and applied for natrualization before applying for my GC renewal: 1. Would the time since my GC expired, and before I applied for the renewal (5 months) be considered as an "illegal" stay in US...
