Findings fly in face of UN's arguments

Economics teaches us that impact due to loss of high paying jobs ripples through the economy. So if 1000 S/W engineers making 80K return to india, then loss will be greater than 80M, as they would not consume products/services upon which other businesses operate. So by that measure, immigrant...

Findings fly in face of UN's arguments

Several people on this board have consistently claimed that US would not lose talent due to retrogression, immigrants constitute only a small portion of the workforce, it does not matter if people get discouraged and go back to their country due to retrogression etc. The article pasted below...

Employment Based Immigration is good for USA, UN please comment.

The current EB system is definitely broken and everyone from the top scientist to small time programmer is having trouble. You really don't need a spin to counter this, just two forceful arguments are enough: 1) Retrogression leads to loss of talent. 2) It increases offshoring

Totally agree with that. Retro may not be the sole reason for offshoring but it favors the trend. Retro makes offshore location more attractive as American trained workers are available for a lower cost. As someone pointed out language is also a factor. Also I never said that cost was not a...

IT workers/engineers constitute the bulk of people heading back and IT companies also account for the bulk of offshoring. You may be surprised but many call center operations,BPO companies are started/staffed by people who left the US and went back to India. Granted not all of them were...

The link is that highly skilled workers leave US due to retrogression --> Makes indian/chinese labor market attractive --> Companies come to India/China. This link has always been there and seems to be getting stronger.

Not related to argument I said offshoring increased due to retrogression, it did not begin due to it. Check out my other post. You are mostly correct, however cost is one factor but not the only one. Again cost is only one factor and I have been involved in decisions to offshore. My...

I don't agree equating unskilled labor with high tech workers, simply because the amount of training involved differs in orders of magnitude. Cost savings is only one issue here. When people from US go back to india, they are taking back valuable job experience, making them easily employable by...

Well those articles in a nutshell say that 'high skill' immigrants have an economic impact far greater than their number and when a country loses these people, its competitors tend to benefit. Yes, the topic is fairly new, so may not be a lot of research on it. I believe that the trend of...

Wrong. The GC process is giving a negative impression of US, which makes people think of going back. This negative impression remains even after getting the GC and is reason to head back.

Again the assumption here is that after starting their own business/becoming managers they will want to come to the US. Having interacted with IT managers in bangalore,India, I know this is not true.

And what I am trying to say is that loss of talent is a valid and powerful argument against retrogression, which should be used when we write to employers, senators etc. Does any one disagree?

Unfortunately this type of thinking has crept into USCIS. As I mentioned before brilliant young people are being affected by retrogression. How do you expect a fresh graduate, even from a top college to apply on EB-1? Does this mean he/she does not matter? He/She might go on in future to...

If you exclude India,China,Mexico and Phillipines, you are leaving out 1/3rd of world population and 1/3 of worlds engineering graduates. Also students from europe/japan don't consider US as their #1 option. So if US is unattractive to these 4 countries there is loss of talent.
