To the best of my knowledge, one needs to file for both of these extensions (iEAD & EAD) 90 days in advance, to be eligible for an iEAD at the local BCIS office, if the application isn't adjudicated.

Re; iEAD expiring soon! Need Help!
You needed to file an I-765 again about 3 months before your iEAD was expiring. Your attorney should have told you about this. I am not sure why this is required, but such is the process.
