based on my experience, my advice is to apply for re-entry permit and go to your country. if it is not approved within one year then come to US for a short trip and go back again. in second trip you can show your re-entry permit (if it is approved by then) so that you don't face any problem...

hi all, i have applied for re-entry permit for my son in oct 92 and he departed US same month . still it is not approved. i called ins customer service and asked them what will happen if it is not approved before oct 93. they said he should come back to US if it is not approved...
