Proof of Non citizenship to a diplomatic child

As far as I'm aware, there is no formal certificate of non-citizenship, so to speak, available to people in your circumstances. I would suggest you apply for some benefit for which only US citizens are eligible. In rejecting your application, the agency responsible will be required to give...

Apply for passport abroad after oath ceremony

On your first question, this is exactly what I did. I had my naturalization ceremony in the morning, flew out of the US that afternoon and applied for (and received) my first US passport at a consulate outside the US. Strictly speaking, you're not meant to leave the US on a foreign passport, but...

The "been there done that" thread: life in the US after DV

If you only became an LPR on 9 January 2022, your first tax return will need to be filed by 15 April 2023 for the 2022 tax year. There's no need to file anything in 2022 unless you were subject to US tax obligations in 2021 that are unrelated to your LPR status.

The "been there done that" thread: life in the US after DV

This may be of interest. There's at least one accountant/law firm in the US that thinks Australian superannuation should not be subject to US taxation: https://www.castroandco.com/services/individuals/international/international-tax-planning/u-s-tax-treatment-of-australian-superannuation/. I...

One173 day trip after first time arriving to US - will it affect?

That was right at the start of my immigration process. I waited until more than 4 years and 6 months had passed after I'd returned to the US from that 626-day absence to apply to naturalize. We discussed why I was out of the country for so long during my interview, but since I'd had a reentry...

    Continuous residence after filing N-400

Quick update for anyone who may be interested. I eventually left the US in July this year, almost four months after filing the N400. In early November, I received an invitation for my naturalization interview in Fairfax, VA. I flew back to the US for the interview, arriving three days...

One173 day trip after first time arriving to US - will it affect?

Based on my experience, this shouldn't be a problem. My N400 was recently approved at interview and I had a 626-day absence (!) immediately after becoming a permanent resident (which did break the continuity of my residence, but I had a reentry permit, so I was allowed back into the US without...

no estimated time for citizenship in my USCIS account

This is what MyUSCIS currently says for me. (I erased the Receipt # for privacy). It's been acting very strangely this week. At one point, my N-400 disappeared altogether. I also noticed that today, the average processing times for my local USCIS centre (Washington, DC) were adjusted down by 0.5...

    Continuous residence after filing N-400

Hi @Fin . Thanks so much for your response. Under ordinary circumstances, yes. The problem is that my home country is Australia, which currently has very strict border restrictions. In theory, once I'm there, I'm not allowed to leave again. There are certain exemptions, which might make it...

    Continuous residence after filing N-400

Haha, it certainly wasn't my greatest photo, but it's a younger and skinnier version of my current self, so I'll take it!

    Continuous residence after filing N-400

Interested in your thoughts on this. According to My USCIS, my next milestone is to receive my biometrics appointment notice, but I've already received a biometrics reuse notice (see screenshot). Have you seen anything like this before? Do you think it's worth a call to USCIS, or is this likely...

    Continuous residence after filing N-400

Thanks Susie, this is helpful. Unfortunately, waiting to relocate isn’t an option, but we made the decision to relocate knowing that it might jeopardise the naturalisation application.I guess I’ll just have to be honest about everything at my interview and accept the outcome if it goes against me.

@SusieQQQ , judging by some of your recent posts, you might have some ideas on this?

Travel back to US after being out more than 2 years

When I had a re-entry permit a few years ago, I was explicitly told by the US consular officer who gave it to me that I had to re-enter the US before it expired, even if this was more than two years after I left the US. He may have been wrong, but that's what I was told.

    Continuous residence after filing N-400

I'm hoping you knowledgeable people may be able to help with a naturalization query. I filed my N-400 three weeks ago, having been a permanent resident since 2014. I currently easily meet both the residence and presence requirements. On the day I filed my application, I also received a...

When am I eligible for citizenship (four years and one day rule)?

Hello friends. I'm looking for some advice. I'm trying to figure out when I can apply for US citizenship. Here's my timeline: 3 July 2014: arrived at LAX and became a US permanent resident (diversity visa). 17 September 2014: left the US to pursue a master's degree and internships in Europe...

    I-130 delays

I filed an I-130 for my wife on 9 January 2017. I'm also a permanent resident. I haven't hit the nine-month point that you have yet, but I still haven't received approval. It's frustrating that it's taking so long, but judging by your case, I have even more time to wait. Have you considered...

Green-Card holders who've been allowed entry to the US after a long absence-Post your experience

Agreed. This was his mistake. Form I-131 only gives you the option of having the re-entry permit sent to an address in the US or picking it up at a US embassy/consulate abroad. As @Sm1smom said, take with you as much information as possible. Create a paper trail if you can. While I was...

    DV 2017 OC Selectees

Well, my case is a bit peculiar because I joined my current firm in one of their overseas offices and then transferred to DC (when they found out I had a green card), but my impression is that there are lots of firms willing to employ Australian lawyers. In fact, I've met at least a dozen or so...
