i am gonna travel soon on H1B visa, my institution is located in chicago, but unfortunately there are no direct flight from my country to chicago, so can i land in lets say NY and then through domestic flight transfer to chicago? or i have to book a ticket directly to chicago? thanks

is this a mandatory thing for all US consulates in the world and for all H1B applicants who are gonna get their visas stamped at the consulates or they do background check only for common names and for specific countries? thanks
