Is this three years from marriage date or three years from the date he got his green card? The time that a person spends in US after obtaining GC and before getting married to a US citizen counts or not?

My question is If a GC holder gets married to a US citizen can it fast track the citizenship of GC holder? I believe that it takes five years to become citizen after a person has obtained GC. Does it take same time if the GC holder gets married to a US citizen?
