This was what I did when I applied for my first TN.
I got my TN at the border and then drove to another place (a short distance from POE to that office) to apply for SSN. Unfortunately the office was closed so I had to go back Canada. Next day I drove across the border again to submit my SSN...

My lawyer working for my employer also suggested that I give up any travel plan (including Canada) from April to Oct 1st. I am wondering how serious the impact will be on H1 application if I do need to go across the border.
