Update: It was filed as AOS. So now I'm filing I-824 and once it's approved, my case will be sent to NVC, then to Japanese consulate.

I'd have to check with my attorney who filed my I-130. She didn't tell me any detail on that upon filing. But I'd assume AOS since I was on H-1B at the time of filing.
