Usually companies will ask you for I-9 form when you join them. At that time, they verify GC if you are perm.resident. Thats how I've seen most of them do it, thats why SSN was not an issue. But, better to follow all the procedures formally at SSA office. I didnt do it at GC time, will do it...

if u did not change it will say "valid for employment with ins authorization only". if u updated, i assume it wont say that. thats all the diff.

I did not know abt SSN update after Green card either. I came to know about it much later, but it did not make much difference in day-to-day life, so I did not change it then. But now with citizenship it is perhaps good to get it changed so we can be done with it.

Lets say you have a Social security card that says "Only valid for employment with INS authorization" - (somehow after GC lets say you never updated the SS card, so it still says it as of citizenship). I think we have to fill out form SS-5 to get the "restrictive legend" removed, and SSA will...

cafeconleche, It is not really all that weird. Having a "judge" make a decision like in some countries, is not foolproof. Judges can be biased too.

If you apply for US Passport and passport card together... do they send the original naturalization certificate back to you only after they issue both passport and passport card? (It used to be they issue the passport to you, sometimes after 5-10 days, you get your natz certificate back, and...
