I know that many people on this forum and elsewhere usually apply for Canadian PR as a backup while waiting for their U.S. greencard (I confess I was one of them). I landed in Canada in Aug 2007 and came back to the U.S. within a week.
But now, with U.S. priority dates...
I have a MS and PhD from the US, plus lots of teaching experience, in addition to 3+ years as a management consultant. I was still asked to take the IELTS. My suggestion would be to get it done.

I landed in Canada as a PR in Aug 2007, and returned to the US within a week. I received my PR and SIN card a few weeks later (forwarded by my uncle in Canada).
Though I was in Canada for only a week, do I still need to file a tax return? I plan to move permanently to Canada this...
Thanks to both of your for your responses. My lawyer has faxed CIC a letter explaining the situation, and said we will hear from them only if there is a problem. So far, it's been quiet from their end.
I'll be back in the U.S. in mid-Jan. Hopefully, it will work out.
