The Washington DO at Fairfax doesn't have same day Oath ceremony for naturalization candidates opting for name change. A friend of mine opted for name change in his interview on Dec 2005 and he is still waiting for his Oath Ceremony.

I am from India and have an unique hindu name but got stuck in the name check process for more than 16 months and just became a US citizen. Most of my friends from India got their citizenship in under 6 months time. So, I don't think religion plays any part in the name check process.

Sdm, That means your FBI name check must not have been completed. For most people its done before the interview date. For some it takes a while to be completed. For a selective group of applicants, it takes about 2-3 years. I hope your name check will be completed real soon. I attended...
