My case was transferred to Chicago in 5/2003 and its online status did not change when the interview was scheduled.

Yep. Just had my interview today in Chicago and this is exactly what happened to me. I was told by the examiner to "keep checking the website" (US State Dept Visa Bulletins, I presume) and to "schedule an appointment" (via INFOPASS, I presume) once the PD becomes current.
