I ended up getting my PIO card back 2.5 weeks after it was sent in. I was almost ready to go down to the embassy to get my passport but it came a couple days before I was going to do that.
I didn't go for OCI since it was a much more drawn out process.
thanks, this is PIO so there is no online reference #s, and they say 4 day processing.
will write a very polite letter with pertinent information.
would going in person help anything in trying to get my passport back?
both times were fedex priority overnight, and in the money order was included the $20 for express mail return of documents.
should i send a fax asking for status similar to what i posted above?
do they usually respond quickly?

I'm a US Citizen by birth, both parents Indian, one still indian + green card, the other naturalized.
I originally applied for PIO via mail to the Indian Embassy in New York (i live in CT) :
* notirized copies of:
* my passport
* current and past expired passport of my mother...
