N400 naturalization success story with pending traffic ticket

You have to disclose citations in N400 in yes/no questions and in interview (if asked). It’s ok if you don’t remember the exact dates, they can be approximate. Are any of your tickets “moving violations”? They can be misdemeanors in some states. Adjudicators have a lot of discretion in GMC...

I never worked for sponsoring employer

@whitemimauz3 I did some reading and the supplement J might make sense, but did OP file supplement J? From what they say, it doesn’t seem so as they never indicated that they ported their sponsorship. It seems that OP may not even have filed a I-485 since they stated that they got their green...

I never worked for sponsoring employer

@whitemimauz3 if the employer forgot to withdraw when he didn’t have a job offer, would that still be a legally issued GC? The GC is for future employment, the employment offer does not exist at the time of GC issuance, so even if the employer forgot to withdraw, that would not make this a...

N400 naturalization success story with pending traffic ticket

Traffic infractions are rarely an issue if paid unless the person gets several tickets that the USCIS holds against good moral character. I suggest you pay the ticket and keep the receipts. Some adjudicators ask for payment proof, others don’t. It’s a discretionary thing.

I never worked for sponsoring employer

From what I know, a sponsor should withdraw their sponsorship if the relationship doesn’t exist. For example, if someone files an I-130 for a spouse but the marriage is dissolved before they receive a green card, they need to withdraw sponsorship. In such a case, even if the spouse receives a...

I never worked for sponsoring employer

how many years did you work for your sponsoring employer in all (from when to when)? When you got your GC in 2015, were you employed by your sponsor? From what I know, a employment GC is for future employment. If your sponsor did not have a future job, they should have revoked the filing with...

Weird experience at Newark, NJ: Decision cannot be made

From what you said, I don’t think it’s a big legal issue that could impede your citizenship in any way. You seem to have met the legal residency requirements. Although residency is about intent than actual stay outside the country, if you never stayed beyond 6 months, and maintained US ties...

Traveling to US after a long time using green card

Makes sense. Btw if you check in online, you show your documents at the gate unless you are checking a bag. They call your name out for doc check and replace the boarding pass that says Docs ok. I usually never check a bag in even for international travel, so I have shown the documents the gate...

    Going to Mexico with RTD

Yup, I stand corrected. I did not read the lower part. My COP is listed there, so probably that’s why I never had an issue. I did not have a passport from my country however. The I-571 (RTD) has the nationality listed on it. I just used the RTD to travel to Cabo and back without GC.

Traveling to US after a long time using green card

Agree that airlines can be a pain in the rear and I have had them delay me many times because they have no clue what a RTD/RP is. But if the OP has a valid passport and GC, these are valid and commonly used documents. The airlines do not have a way of knowing how long you have been out of the...

    IRS record

I think you should be able to see all payments made on your tax account. I make quarterly estimated payments using 1040-ES since I have a business as well and these payments show up there. https://www.irs.gov/payments/view-your-tax-account

    Going to Mexico with RTD

^ The above is not true. Mexico allows travel with RTD without GC. I have myself done so. However expect delays as the agents do not usually know these requirements. Any travel documents can be verified in the Timatic Database run by airlines. Make sure you select stateless/refugee. For example...

Traveling to US after a long time using green card

Did you maintain any ties to US after 2017 such as financial ties, investments, property etc? When you argue your case with IJ you will need to present this evidence. Your denial of SB1 visa holds no bearing in front of the IJ. He/She shall decide your case de novo. As for CBP, as long as you do...

Applying for N400 - complicated situation (3 Month Residency)

If you own property in NY, pay NY taxes and have NY IDs, you are a NY resident. The very basic jurisdiction issue while considering residency is the address where you file taxes from.if your company can issue you a letter that you are working for them abroad and it’s a US based company then it’s...

    Continuous residence after filing N-400

@2014hopeful wouldnt it be possible for you to maintain residency by at least going and coming back once for a few days or so in the next 12 months? I think you will need only one trip that is a week or two long. You should maintain bank accounts, financial ties and file 2020 taxes. I think that...

    Absence after filing N-400

@randomcanadian check if your employment qualifies you to maintain residency based on certain criteria below, else my advice would be the same as susieQQQ https://www.uscis.gov/n-470

You do not necessarily need a lawyer to prepare your asylum interview

I have worked both with and without lawyers during my journey. My suggestion is that if you can afford one or are able to get one pro Bono it always helps. Else be prepared to study the law, case precedents and argue your case. You should be able to write a good legal brief covering your case...

Referral Notice - Notice to Appear (NTA)

I would refer you to 7of9’s post which details how you can prep. Every case is different so you would obviously need to tailor it to your needs. Good luck

Referral Notice - Notice to Appear (NTA)

if I had prepared my case well and got my asylum during the first interview with the AO, I would have saved 2.5 - 3 years. In hindsight I should have slowly prepared my case over a period of a year or two while I was a student, studied the laws just like I did for my federal case. That would...

Referral Notice - Notice to Appear (NTA)

Unfortunately, I was not as proactive as @7of9. I came as a student and applied for asylum in a hurry because I heard that you have to apply within 1 year. I did not realize that being in a valid status is an exception to the rule. So my documents were not prepared properly - it was based on the...
