    DV 2019 Oceania Selectees

Not always. I was asked questions (as the spouse) about what I was planning to do for work in the US (I was the sole breadwinner and my ex a stay at home dad).

They may not know that the Defence Force doesn't supply original military records. If I were you, I'd take something official from the government stating that this is the case. A good rule of thumb is to assume they know nothing and to make sure you have enough documentation for whatever...

We paid our fees in cash in Australian dollars. Unless something has changed since we had our visas processed, Australian currency is accepted.

I had no idea that most LPRs don't carry it with them. My kids don't carry theirs, but mine is always with me.

You should be carrying your Green Card all the time, regardless of what ICE is doing. It's part of your obligations as an LPR. https://www.uscis.gov/green-card/after-a-green-card-granted

I'm not sure if they will post the cards overseas but I'm sure you can always get them sent to you by a friend. Just one tip: many banks will quiz / reject overseas transactions UNLESS you have informed them that you are overseas. When I'm travelling, I let my bank know that I'm overseas, so...

Lawyer won't do you much good. You need an accountant who can provide the advice you're after.

Not screwed. File your taxes now. You'll likely pay a fine for filing late. You'll need to do it anyway if you intend on becoming a citizen.

I have a 14 and 12 year old (11 and 9 when we moved over). Kids are resilient but there is still a period of adjustment. As parents, we always framed the move as a big adventure. Our kids are free spirits anyway, so they embraced the idea of an adventure. Having said that... mine struggled...

To your point @SusieQQQ, Geico sucked for us in North Carolina. 50% more expensive than Progressive. But I've heard the opposite in other states. Totally second the idea to shop around as much as possible.

I don't know if there is a specific cap BUT, the first year we were residents (and spent 8 months back in Oz getting packed up), my taxable income was well into the six figures and we didn't have to pay anything to the US government. Where Aussies need to be careful in terms of income is: a)...

    From Australia to Nashville TN

Australia is a great country. And I don't want to live there anymore. There are things I don't like / things that have become deal breakers and I consciously (with my family) chose to leave. I love my country. Just have zero desire to live and work there for the time being. Plus, I come...

Agreed, but I didn't realize they would automatically move the card from secured to unsecured without me asking for that to happen. But maybe it's a common thing.

If you're with BoA, they often automatically change your secured credit card to an unsecured credit card, along with a limit increase.

Bringing kids to the DV immigrant visa interview

You'll need to check with the consulate you are interviewing at. I've heard some don't require children. Sydney (where I interviewed) does require all applicants to be at the interview.

If you are born in Australia, it's not required. Birth certificate is fine.
