I'm interviewed in Addis Ababa. Here, interviews are made through windows like a bank counter. The window is covered by clear glass. You can see the CO directly, but talk through sound devices.
I don't have any idea about what windows look like in other embassies.
It is logical to ask for pictures for married couples. It proofs the age of their relationship.
But I don't know why single applicants were asked for pictures. I saw such experience only at one window. The CO at this window constantly asked single applicants with whom they live. Mother, father...
Ohh @usken go. I was in a wave mood. I got encouraged and confident when I saw consecutive visa approvals, and i went down when someone got refused. I was going up and down the whole time

For your surprise, I saw many refused and AP cases in short period of time when I was in the embassy.

Yes you can view your DS260 anytime you want. But it tells you nothing than the informations you provided when you fill the form.
If your case number is below 15700 and if you submitted your form early, you can expect 2NL with in few days. I hope your form is already processed.
You are right. The CO gave me a paper to be sent to my sponsor/host. It is for online payment of GC preparation. (Sponsor=host.)

The www.travel.state.gov page instructs you to take the DS 260 confirmation page as you go for your interview.
But it was not asked at the embassy.
I Personally advice you to have it
when you go for your interview
because it costs you nothing. (only br 1.25 to print) Lol.

The CO may put on AP for discrepancies among documents. But, they will definitely refuse for some reasons like missing a family member on original EDV application and under qualification through education or work experience.
