I am sorry to resurrect this thread, but as of today, my case has been referred to an IJ. I would like to ask for help from those who went through this process. How was it like? And mostly, IJ would grant your asylum?
i had my interview on 05/01/18 and went to the office foe the decision today 05/14/18. it was not good news as my case got referred to immigration court. i am quite lost at the moment.
how is it like from now on? anyone having experience at the immigration court? please share. thank you.
not that i want to be referred to the immigration court or anything, but it's the person i am that always plan ahead for the worst. it seems that it's best to be represented as well in court even though there is no additional document to submit. how long was it from the date of you were aware...
just like newacct said, your mother can stay as long as I-539 is pending. i do hope that her explanation letter for her extension is not to take care of you because that would not be the intended purpose of B2 visa.
i submitted my dad's extension of stay on 02/28/18, and his got approved on...
how did you find out that your case was approved. i was informed by the asylum officer who interviewed me today that they changed their decision delivery method to in-person pickup. it seemed like you got your decision and then moved. did you file the address change form for EAD?
i just had my interview today (05/01/18) at the chicago asylum office, too. i was informed that i would be able to pick up the decision on 05/14/18 but i kinda know that i would have to wait longer than the scheduled date, but i never thought it would be like 2 years long. i hope you get your...
congratulations! that's super fast for the rescheduled appointment. it took me about a year to get my interview. your final decision came in fast too. that's inspiring :)
yes, i thought about that too. how could people remember vividly all details that happened 4-5 years ago especially something they didn't want to remember? i am starting to worry because my interview is coming up soon.
You withdrew I-539 application (from J1 to F1), which means that when your J1 status expired, you were out of atatus the next day. You have been out of status since then even though you filed for asylum, but it’s ok as you are now in the US on a pending-Asylum-application status.

@MAZ73 Thank you for your input. I agreed with you as I was thinking about the same thing you mentioned and I asked myself if I could handle such pressure. I already went ahead and asked my attorney to put in a request for rescheduling last Thursday.
thank you. can you tell me how your interview was like? what kinds of questions did the asylum officer ask you? i will appreciate any tips that you can give.
i had a talk with my attorney again, and she explained to me that she has limited role in the interview room. basically, she cannot intervene the conversation that i have with the asylum officer. the only thing that she could do is to observe and make a short summary to make important points...
