I am awaiting approval of a h1b transfer and plan to travel home for a few days, carrying just my valid h1b from previous employer in my passport and a copy of my new petition receipt(I-797C). does this sound ok???

inders99, can you back up your info??? i think you are actually wrong. several people have posted links refering to the law regarding traveling while a transfer is pending, and how it is legal and possible. can you post anything that states otherwise?
