Thanks, the RFE was asking proof of work authorization between my graduation and first EAD approval. I was on J-1 when I graduated and worked three years on academic training (practical training equivalent for PhD.s).
Got approval email yesterday, the details are:
No job or address changes
I-140 ND: November 2001 (NIW)
I-140 AD: March 2002
I-485 ND: 15 July 2002
FP1: August 2002
FP2: April 2004
RFE issued: 02 July 2004
Received by NSC: 18 July 2004
AD: 14 September 2004

There have been cases that people have received approval notices on mail without any online update. I am guessing that your application also got approved along with your spouse but they skipped updating the system. Derivative applicants don’t get approved before the primary. Just wait...

Since your status got updated, you have nothing to worry about. I am also a July-02 filer and responded to an RFE on June 18 (FP 2 in April 04). The status got updated indicating that NSC received my response and nothing happened since. Our files probably started collecting dust...

You need to consider how long it takes for a file to reach to case officer after initial review by contractors. Those cases that received RFE before FP2 were probably current for FP during initial review. Again this's only a theory.

FP receipts are not generated automatically but issued by contractors who check the appl. packages before they are forwarded to a case officer. Contractors don’t have the authority to rule on the case if an RFE is required.
