As far as I know & have experienced, you are allowed to do your FP unless you receive a FP appointment letter from BCIS. You have to show this letter at the FP location to get your FP done.

Yes, my parents have applied for AP twice & got approved both times without problems. They also traveled abroad & returned on AP without any hassles. But the best policy is to cite a compelling reason for travel on AP - not for fun/vacation, etc.
SV,
Yes, in your case you may have to wait a while to get your A#. If you applied for your AP along with the 485, you will know the A# when the AP is approved (usually 4 mos). I know you are frustrated with the lack of information, but believe me, having the application processed at the...
MV,
The AP was filed separately in Jan 2003 & approved exactly 4 mos later. I don't know if the processing time is different if filed together w/485 or separately. Can you post the link to the web-site that contains the processing time for the Dallas office?
SV,
If you filed your apps at a BCIS local office, you will not receive the receipt number. The receipt that you received in the mail is your proof of filing the application. However, you might want to take a look at the back side of your canceled check - it may have your A#.
Jagruti,
I too am waiting for my parents' approval at the Dallas office. They filed in Jan 2002 & are still waiting. Where and when did u file for your parents?
I don't think there should be much to worry about changing from a non-immigrant to a immigrant visa. Let us know how the...
I have a similar situation where I've sponsored my parents too...my take is that CP is faster than the 485 route. However, the drawback is that until the CP processing is over and GC is approved, your parents will not be able to visit the US. On the other hand, the 485 process make take about...
MV,
I sponsored my parents for their GC last yr at the Dallas Dist. Off.
RD 1/02, FP scheduled 8/03. Don't know how long it takes to get the 485 approved after the FP. If you call the BCIS 800#, they'll tell you that the avg. 485 processing time at the Dallas office is 21 mos.
Neha..
Here is the link for local office processing timelines....
http://www.immigration.com/processing-times/national.html
...it may not be regularly updated.....the best thing would be to call the INS 800# to get the latest processing timelines.
Hi all:
I have a question pertaining to travel on advance parole. I am a US citizen & have sponsored my parents for their GC. They will be traveling to the US using their AP. Do they have to buy a 2-way ticket (like B1/B2 visitors visa travelers are required to) or can they just buy a...
Hi Takealook,
Did the Dallas Dist. Office ask u to do your medical test? I presume you've been sponsored by a US Citizen for your GC. Can you tell me what is your filing date? I'm a US Citizen & I filed for my parents' GC at the Dallas DO in Jan 2002 - no word from them yet.
The following statement made by Sachin is not true for all district offices....
"the INS district offices generally DONOT mail reciepts for any applications you send to the office. "
My experience with the Dallas District Office is that they have ALWAYS provided receipts within 30-60 days...
