I'm on H4 visa. I recently got my EAD done. I applied for SSN. SSN office says( after 20 days of applying) that my status is still not changed by INS to 'immigrant'. Is this normal? Did any one faced similar issue? Please share your expereince. Do I need to call INS? thanks in advance

thanks bostonfish. How are you so sure that boston INS gives first time EADs? did any of your friend get it? I just want to make sure so that it doesn't screw up my case. I've already waited over a year now.

Is it recommended to go to local INS for first time EAD or it should be sent to Vermont service center? How long does it take to get EAD in either case? I overheard that local INS are not issuing EAD, is this correct??? thanks for your response...
