Seems like the usage of "what-ever" already is well known

Agreed, a thick skin and a poker face serves one well in the US.

    dv2016 winner??

Now, that's what I call a "professional lottery player". Seriously, I am impressed with your diligence and hope you get selected.

    Doubts regarding DV2016 results.

That was quite different; it had to do with the way the winners were selected, not the way the results were presented (or not-like the way it is now). I believe the winners were from those who applied in the first two days of the registration period. By the time they realized the mistake, 20,000...

Does this mean it is over? DV2016

Seriously, it looks like a certificate issue. In all likelihood they are checking from computers which are on the intranet.

@Britsimon debugging their programs :) Will you be billing them :D

    Doubts regarding DV2016 results.

From https://www.facebook.com/travelgov According to DoS: ...more than 12,000 individuals have confirmed their selection for DV-2016 on the ESC site.

    DV 2016 Winners

There is a perfectly reasonable explanation for that: They need the check every query against the winners only, which is 100,000 (or so). Now, 16 characters for confirmation number + 4 characters for year of birth (assuming they learned their lesson from Y2K problem-2 otherwise) + say 20...

    Two Green Cards/SB-1

Being a resident for immigration purposes is not necessarily the same as being a resident for tax purposes. To abandon your lawful permanent resident status (for immigration purposes) please see http://london.usembassy.gov/dhs/uscis/abandon.html. For IRS purposes, things may be much more...

Protecting against increasingly strong US Dollar?

@OnTheGo: Unfortunately I cannot foresee the fx market movements, as evidenced by the lack of my private islands. So, I cannot help you there. Since you are writing in this forum, I am assuming you already are, or about to become, a US taxpayer, in which case you have to take tax implications...

Personal opinions please About life in USA

Those are very sad and valid points. My comments were mostly addressing tax implications when one decides to leave US after getting citizenship; either continue paying US taxes while living elsewhere or give up citizenship and face expatriation tax.

Personal opinions please About life in USA

No doubt US passport / Green card opens many doors, except for those of foreign banks. One should also consider tax implications: A US resident/Citizen is liable with his/her worldwide income. Abandoning residency/renouncing citizenship is not free, there can be serious tax consequences...

Personal opinions please About life in USA

Another point to consider is job security. Even if you land an excellent job, one can experience "restructuring fatigue"; it is an easy hire-easy fire environment. Taking long vacations can be risky as well: if things ran fine while this guy/gal was away for 3 weeks, do we really need him type...

DV 2014 Results being released in batches this time round.

I am trying to understand the underlying reason for the high case numbers from EU and OC as compared to previous years.

DV 2014 Results being released in batches this time round.

I have also noticed the relatively high Case Numbers this year, especially in OC region (I am not from that region). Could it be possible that they have released the high numbers this year due to some glitch or on purpose due to some rationale that is not obvious to me? Congrulations to all the...

    Re-entry Permit Biometrics

Many thanks for the responses. Would "finishing a job contract that was signed before green card" be an acceptable reason for the reentry permit application?

    Re-entry Permit Biometrics

How long does it take to get one? Can I file it then leave the states, come back for fingerprinting leave again and the lawyer can collect and forward it to me overseas? I have seen conflicting info: Page 2 of I-131 Instructions: "However, if biometric collection is required and the applicant...

    Yet another SB-1 question

Working in a third country. 6 months after the LPR stamped on the passport (just before its expiration) enter the US and depart within 2-3 weeks (green card to be forwarded by a friend). Do not have time to wait 60 days for reentry permit biometrics. Stay outside of US for about another year...

    Police certificate from KSA

Greetings, How does one go about obtaining a police certificate from KSA if no longer living there? It seems like KSA consulates do not provide this. According to reciprocity table (http://www.travel.state.gov/visa/fees/fees_5455.html?cid=9727): "Police clearances are unavailable for third...
