I have been here 13 years and have 3 children,in oct. I got married to an Us citizen and would like to know if I need an attorney to file my adjustment of status due to this situation.I went to court on petty theft charges,was never arrested,in court the judge was told about my recent ugly divorce and how I don't have any records or traffic violaion,she also told me and my attorney that she could see this was a honest mistake due to all the stress I was under (payed for my items and forgot a pair of glasses on my head worth $26, was given a ticket to show up at court ,was not arrested).So she told me to get some counseling on my own so I had someone to talk to.And she'll dismissed all of it and already gave me the papework that says that and I have paid all court fees,also for this last time I don't need to show up with my attorney.I'm getting ready to send forms to adjust my status and since the criminal attorney and divorce drained all my $.Is it safe for me to file on my own.
