H1 expiring in December 2004

My current H1 expires in December 2004 (sixth year). My wife is currently on H4. She is currently submitting her application to an University here. And apply for and F1 visa. Will it be possible for me to change my status to F2 after December 2004. I need to stay legally here. HELP!
