Hi, I graduated in Spring 2006 and applied for J1 on June 1st. I received the receipt for COS to J1. But my F1 expired on July 12th before J1 approval. Am I out of status even though my J1 is under process? I am confused. Please help. Thank you.

Hi, My F1 is going to expire this month end. I applied for change of status to J1 last month , but haven't received approval yet. It is under processing. So do I need to go back to my home country if I dont get the approval for J1 before my F1 expiry? Please help me. Thanks in advance.
