My wife attended interview and passed at washington DO today. The name on the birth certificated did not have pillai on her last name(fathers). All along in all her Indian passport, SSN, bank, dmv id she had the pillai on her lastname.

It is not a formal receipt letter. There is no number assoicated with it. Just a piece of paper. So no way to track it. I just checked the processing time and number of applications received on this category and how many processed at Washington DO. That is it.

Your kid can travel with Indian passport. Similar situation for me. I got my certificate end of may 2009 and booked tickets in advance on June 17th. He went with his Indian passport and once he returned in Sep 09, I have applied fo his passport and got it. no worries.
