I was flying the same day when my I-94 was expiring,and unfortunately this Volcanic stuff started happening.My flight was cancelled and it was rescheduled for 22nd April.Since I-94 was expiring i called USCIS office.He told me to fill up an I-94 extension form I-539.
So I did the E-filing of I-539 on USCIS site which costed me 300$.I applied for extension to be on safer side.I dont know what has to be done after you file, what i understood they will send you some package in your postal mail,you need to send them back all your details.
After filling my extension,i called call center of CBP,and I got an advice that they are not aware of how to handle in this situation,but said goverment understand your problem, and when you exit country just keep the copy of your USCIS I-539 form with you.
