The thing I can tell you it is that: it depends of your status here in the USA. If you are in a good status here, don't be afraid to go back to Cameroon fro the interview. Now, if you're not really "legal" here, I think you should stay here and try to change status from here.
But, don't take my words for a holy speech. If you can ask aroung you, do so... that only what I think, without any experience.

Hey, Just to tell you that my case number is 70.000 something, and that I am from cameroon too.
I currently live in New York and I'm weighing if I should risk going back to cameroon for the interview
