    out of status for more than 180 days

    I have remained in the US for 8 months without a visa after my I-20 expired. I have been told that since I was on an F1 visa, my I-94 has D/S (duration of stay) written on it and I would receive no penalty for these 8 months when I reenter the US. Does anybody know any details about this?
