Thanks for the reply Gunt. Do you know what will happen when I come back if my F1 gets rejected? Do I automatically become an H4 or do I have to file for a change of status again? How will the INS know that my visa stamping was refused?

We are in a similar situation. My wife has to go for her F1 Visa stamping this December. Do you remember what you filled in the DS-156...

I came to the USA in 2004 on H-4 visa and recently changed my status to F-1 after joining PhD this fall.
We now plan to go to India in December. My husband has his labour approved for his GC but we do have not yet filed I-140.
I know my situation is like may others here...
