AOS through marriage

Hello.. My tourist visa expired in nov 2004 and I got married in 2005. My husband is a US citizen. We have not applied to adjust my status yet. Will my overstay complicate my case? Also is it true that I will only be able to visit my family with a permanent GC? Please help.
