Does that mean that I have to stay away from my wife 5 years in order to obtain citizenship

I know I have to reside to the US for more than 30 months in 5 years without being away from the US more than 6 months so that I can apply for citizenship. But in the meaning time I want to take my wife with me so that we can stay together in the US.
