Here is an interesting question... which of the DV2014 winners will be applying for DV2015. I will.

Why??? Well firstly there is a chance that my case number wouldn't be reached before the visa are all gone (very unlikely, but possible). Secondly there is a chance of us being disqualified during the interview process (I have no idea why, but again there is a chance). Third, if I found we were selected again in May 2014 (and preferably with a low case number), I would be less stressed about being current in time to choose between CP and AOS. Lastly, and hopefully least likely of all, since my wife is the selectee this time around she could "in theory" meet Robert Pattinson and run off with him. In that last scenario I would probably still have a problem because my eligibility is through my wife being Spanish. However, as long as I don't let Robert Pattinson near her, I think I should be ok...

Be careful - there is a lot of other rich and handsome actors on the planet! ;)

We will (2 additional chances), too! I did not read anywhere that it was not permissible to enter another time while still in DV processing of the previous period.

I totally get what you are saying about the AOS vs CP decision. On the other hand, just out of pure speculation...who knows what they might be doing to a DV2015 even after drawn...I guess with all the big boys' discussions about the new immigration bill 'n all ... they might (just might!) pull the carpet from under all selectees. So in saying that, I would not want to make a 'BET' on a supposedly 'safe' DV plan B (due to a low case number), to be making the decision in favor of AOS as opposed to CP - you might (must might!) be ending up empty handed, either way. (in the very worst and most unexpected case scenario).

btw ... where are you moving to on your H1B visa?

Hopefully, any immigration reform would keep the Dv2015 open once the draw has taken place...

Not sure where I'll be yet. I am having some discussions with some Universities in California about jobs, but otherwise we will look To be in one of the other states that has a nice climate. No horrible winters is the mandate from the wife...

No long dragging winters for me too. I'm looking at Florida or Texas because it gets pretty depressing in the cold especially when it rains like in the UK.

Don't worry man, you will make it. There is no change of AP in your case, and they will give you the visa on the spot. Get all your luggage sorted up.

Tell me about it! My mother is literally on my case everyday to pack my bags and keep everything ready. I've just dumped all the stuff I'm taking in the other bedroom and chances are I'll pack it once the interview is done lol

Obama says immigration bill unlikely to pass House before August break

WASHINGTON | Wed Jul 17, 2013 12:22am EDT

(Reuters) - President Barack Obama on Tuesday for the first time admitted that it was unlikely that the Republican-led House of Representatives would pass sweeping immigration reforms before lawmakers left Washington for a month-long break in August.

In television interviews taped with four Spanish-language newscasts, Obama said he thinks many Republicans need more time to grapple with concerns about border security and the changing demographics of America.

"I don't think that we're going to see it before the August recess," Obama said in an interview with Telemundo's Dallas affiliate.

After the Senate passed a comprehensive bill that includes a path to citizenship for millions of undocumented immigrants in the United States, Obama argued that the House had "more than enough time" to review and pass it before the August break, when lawmakers head home to their districts.

But House Republicans have since made it clear they will come up with their own reforms, and plan to tackle the immigration issue in smaller bills.

Obama, who has made immigration reform a priority in his second term, said there was a "danger" in dealing with it in pieces, but refused to speculate about what would happen if the House failed to pass a bill.

"There's a tendency I think to put off the hard stuff until the end. And if you've eaten your dessert before you've eaten your meal, at least with my children, sometimes they don't end up eating their vegetables," Obama told Telemundo.

Obama has insisted that reforms must include the path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants.

"It does not make sense to me, if we're going to make this once-in-a-generation effort to finally fix the system, to leave the status of 11 million people or so unresolved," he told Telemundo's Denver affiliate.

Many House Republicans oppose that measure, calling it "amnesty" for people who have broken existing immigration laws. But Obama said ignoring the problem would resign undocumented immigrants to "a lower status."

"I think that's not who we are as Americans," he said.

Obama said he believes some Republicans are responding to concerns they hear about border security, but said those worries should not be used "as an excuse not to solve the problem."

"We can't make it perfect. You're never going to have zero people crossing the border without the proper papers. That's not true at our northern border, it's not true at our southern border - it's not true anywhere in the world," Obama told Telemundo's Denver affiliate.

But Obama also said he thinks a growing Latino population has unsettled some people, noting the "higher birthrate" in the Latino community.

"I think some in the House ... believe that immigration will encourage further demographic changes and that may not be good for them politically," he said.

Hispanic voters overwhelmingly voted for Obama over Republican candidate Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election.

Obama said he thought the growing Hispanic population in America should be "a source of pride," and noted that earlier generations of Americans learned to get past their fears about new waves of immigrants.

"There was a time when people were worried, 'What are the Irish going to do?' And now everybody accepts that the Irish is strength in America," he said.

"There were times where people were concerned about Asians and the Chinese who had been brought here from the railroads, and now there's a recognition that obviously Asian Americans are incredible contributors to the wealth and prosperity of America."

The House of Representatives could barely pass something relatively uncontroversial like the farm bill. I personally don't see them tackling this highly contentious immigration bill anytime this year, so DV 2015 entry month is very likely to take place. However, if by some miracle the bill is passed before May 2014, they might instruct the Dept of State to cancel it and not announce the selectees.
