What is a Yellow Letter?

I hear of people talking about a 'Yellow Letter' or 'YL'. I'm not sure what it is. Some people seem to get one and some people don't. I don't know what it consists of and whether I'll get one or not. Does it come after the interview or before? Can someone please clarify for me please.

Thanks.

Its a letter sent by USCIS to applicants prior to interview letter if applicable. It lists any additional docs that you need bring to interview apart from what is listed in the interview litter. For example, if you were convicted for walking naked in the street, they want you to bring addition info on the case to make sure you dont have pending case :confused::confused:

For me it just lists Driver's license. If you dont get one, dont worry.

I had the same question, and now that is answered, a followup question:

I mentioned a traffic ticket on my N400 (no arrest, < $500 fine), should I expect a yellow letter two ?

I mentioned traffic tickets on my application and I received Yellow Check List (YCL or YL). It asks me to bring court dispositions on the traffics tickets along with my DL, Passport, GC. Sometimes people don't recieve the check list. Need not panic. Just take all the documents with you. This is a once in a life time thing. So no big deal to carry them for the interview. I plan to take every document with me even though the YCL asks for the above mentioned list. People should be more focused on the IL, unless it is a complicated case and wondering what list of documents are needed for the interview.

How easy/tough is it to get court disposition for traffic tickets in your area ?

In San Jose it is a real pain (stand in queue for a day, then wait for 4-6 weeks, and if lucky you get it in the mail). I have a online printout from court's website stating the details of the case. But not sure if that is enough, or should I really take the pain to get a certified disposition.

thanks

Errr.............It's been over a year since I sent in my N-400 and I can't even remember if the N-400 mentioned anything about driving offences. If it did I'm sure I put my stuff down on there.

YL vs. IL

IMHO, anyone inquiring about the YL or the prospect of whether they should receive one should know this: The YL is sent by the NBC whereas the IL is sent by your local USCIS DO.

I got court dispositions in 15 minutes. Talk to a clerk in the court house, then they ask you to wait for 15 minutes to pull the records from the basement, then pay in cash and that's it. I lost the docs one time and went back again and it took only 10 minutes this time. I guess it is different from place to place.

BritishGuy, there's no 'explicit' question about traffic ticket in N400. The question reads something like: "Have you ever been cited/arrested ..." and depending one's preference they either mention traffic tickets or not for this question.

BTW, I am curious what is the current status of your application, since you mentioned you filed it over a year ago ?

Yes, the current situation is that I filed my N-400 on Oct 14th 2008. I only just got my FPs done on 27th Oct 2009 - yes more than a year later. I enquired a few times and even went and enquired to my congressman this summer and was told that they were conducting background checks. I'm a British national (my father is of Pakistani origin) so they need to check that they don't let one 'slip though'. So here I am a year later and none the wiser really. I've just had my fingerprints and am hoping that I have my papers by year end. To be honest with you I've been very unhappy at the long wait. I'm going to give it a month and then I'm going to file a Mandamus Action.

Not really. The initial IL is also from NBC. The letter for rescheduled interview
may come from local DO depending on concrete reasons

This is very weird. They should be doing background checks starting from the FP, not before. Usually the first step is FP and name check. Getting FP appointment after 1 year is very unusual.

Or proof from his physician that he really has 'sleep walking' problem and additional evidence that he sleeps naked

The sleep naked man doesn't need to see any doctor, I have a simple solution for the naked man...:) He should buy handcuffs and cuff himself to his bed at night.. If any doctor vouches for this sort of disorder, he is a perv himself if you ask me...:D

Most likely because of his Pakistanian origin plus British citzenship.
(The combination of these two make things worse due to
London subway boming and liquid bomb plot)

I disagree. An standard interview is always scheduled after the case is transferred to a local office, as a typical LUD update message shows.

Not every case is subject to an initial IL and reschedule, though. Normal cases typically go through a standard interview.
