If I work outside US for 5 months, does that imply that I had
intentions of giving up US residency, i.e. can that be a ground
for revoking a green card. Thanks.

I think it will be OK if the period of stay outside US is less than 6 months and so long as the stay outside of US is temporary in nature. If you are deputed by ur current employer to some other country, you still have a job and PR in US!!!

Thanks Krishna.
But no, in this case, it is not a deputation through the company
in US. Its a job being taken up in India with paycheck being
issued by the company in India.

So the question is:
if someone takes up and emplyement with a company
based in India for 5 months, is that a ground on which
permanent residentship can be revoked.

As long as you keep your primary residence in the US and filing US tax returns, it should not endanger your GC just by working 5 months in India. I know people are doing that already. Good luck!
