What is "welcome notice"?

I have just checked my I-485 status online and found out that the message for my case has changed to the following:

"Current Status:
On March 30, 2006, a welcome notice was mailed for this case. If 30 days have passed and you have not received this notice. Please call the National Customer Service Center at (800) 375-5283 during business hours".

Meanwhile, the status of my wife changed to "Approved" on the same date. Also, I have NOT received any emails regarding my case, but my wife receive 2 emails about her case approval. I am the primary applicant.

What is that "welcome notice" for me? Is it interview, approval or something else? Welcome to what?

After your I-485 is approved, USCIS sends out an order to produce your permanent residence card. This "order" generates an I-181 case (i.e. your "Welcome Notice") with its own USCIS case number. You can check the case status online after you receive the letter from USCIS. When I-181 is approved, it means your physical card has been mailed out by the card production facility.

Thank you Madison04 for explanation. You are right, and I received my plastic card today. :D
 
Did they call you for an interview before they approved your I485? Did you submit W2s and your tax returns with I485?

No interview. When I submitted the documents I sent only my tax return for 2004 and also an employment letter with salary.
 
Welcome notice received on March 25 but no GC so far

I received my welcome notice on March 25. They had sent it on March 22. But no GC so far. Should I call the 1-800 given on the welcome notice to find out or just wait. Please advise.
 
how do you guys receive approval notifications on email

I just wonder how you guys get notifications of 485 approvals over the email, I don't think my email address was mentioned anywhere during the 140/485 filings. Please shed some light.

Wait 30 days after March 25, then call.
Also, your welcome notice has a new case #, this # you can add to your portfolio online, of just check online this new # and find out the status, if you see this (new#) case approved on such date, means they mailed card on that date.
 
am I getting GC soon? or what does it mean?

My PD: 4/30/01
I485 approved on 4/4/06 from Garden City NY
My approval notice has not any eac # just short nomber and it says:

**IF YOU ALREADY HAVE YOUR GREEN CARD, DISREGARD THIS NOTICE**
Your application for status as a permanent resident has been approved. Please come to the Garden City I.N.S. office on 4/27/06 at 1:00:00PM for I-89 processing and/or passport stamping.

Does it mean I'm getting GC in mail soon? Why it has no EAC#?

That is different from mine (mine was from VSC, with EAC#), yours is from local office, maybe they want something from you - picture+signature or fingerprint or whatever - since it clearly says "come" = just do it, show up man!
