Visting US from Canada without PR card

My family recently (start of March) landed as permanent residents in Canada from the UK.
We have the IMM5292 PR papers in each of our British passports and have not yet received our PR cards.

We are planning to visit US on a shopping trip next week but are concerned about the "NOT VALID FOR TRAVEL" text across the bottom of our PR papers.

Am I correct in assuming that this only applies if the paper is not affixed to a valid passport?:confused:

This applies for re-entry into Canada via any form of public transport, international flight, train, greyhound, etc. Land border POEs still accept it if a PR is returning in a private vehicle.
