US Passport Application

Hi,

Do I have to write my "Alien Registration Number" on the DS11 form ?
It says "if applicable".

Please let me know.

Thanks,
shashi

I applied for my passport yesterday and I wrote my A# as it is also on my natz certificate. I did not see the postal employee particularly looking at it.

when one applies for the passport expedited by mail and overnighted(submitted the application at the local post office), how long does it take to start seeing it in the Department of State system?

When I applied for my passport five months ago, I did not put the A number on it.

CroATM: It depends, my took seven days. I've heard some people say it took 10 days to show up and some say it showed up 2 days before they actually received the passport.

7 days? Wow! I guess, I could be getting the passport almost quicker than it shows up in their system.

I sent the application out on Monday - hoping to get the passport towards the end of next week....realistic?

I sent the application last Friday(01/26, expedited) and the status still does not showup in the system.

It's possible to get by the end of next week, Monday Feb. 5 at the latest.

I assumed we were supposed to put our A#s on our PP apps. I also assumed that "if applicable" meant "put it there if you are naturalized (i.e., you have an A#) and don't put it there if you are native born (i.e. you never had an A#)".

We've done 3 pp apps, all expedited. They ranged from 7 days to 2 weeks.

I assumed the same, i.e. if you have an A# write it down. Anyway, as someone mentioned, the A# is on the naturalization certificate, so they can collect this information themselves and that is why most likely nobody has had an issue either by writing the number down or not writing it.

Got my expedited passport in 2-1/2 weeks, but at no time did my application ever show up in the online system. YMMV.

Thank you all for the input. I will keep you posted of my progress and when they cash the check.

Passport status appeared today online. According to the status I should receive my passport on or about 02/07/07.

My passport status appeared today (Friday)...same expected date as MasterUSA's...

See note below...

Passort application for the whole family

Can my wife, me and our two minor children apply at the same time? I understand that the parents' naturalization certificates need to be submitted with the childrens' applications too and I'm not sure if they can process the whole family together. Thank you for your advice!

As far as I know, no. My wife was naturalized before me, and my daughter was to travel before either of us. So we used my wife's Natz cert for my daughter's PP, then for her PP. Later I got mine.

Two post offices told us that we could not "double up" and apply for two passports with a single certificate. The rules might be different at one of the "passport agencies" that the State Dept maintains (but, since the nearest is a 4-5 hour drive away, that wasn't really an option).

sometimes it is just not possible to 'cut corners' and try to be efficient with certain processes. unfortunately, this is one of them.

masterUSA, you think we will get e-passports or the old fashioned ones?
