US passport address related question

I will soon be getting USC and planning to be in India for at least 4 years after getting OCI stamped. So the question is when I get my US passport is it possible to have my India address on it? Technically that would be the correct thing to do because I wont have any USA address as I will sell my house.

Passports don't have addresses on them.

I thought there is an address field on the US passport. While applying for a passport they take two types of addresses, mailing and permanent and I assumed that permanent one would show up on the passport. I am surprised you can write address in pencil on a US passport.

Given that a passport is typically valid for ten years it would be nonsensical to print an address on it. The page that 'natur08' is referring to allows you to write in your permanent address, a temporary (overseas) address and an emergency contact, but this is entirely optional.

Purely out of curiosity I went to my friends place and saw his US passport and saw that there is no address on it (its not that I dont those who replied but just wanted to be sure). Now I am wondering why they ask for permanent address on DS11 form, it seems to be un-necessary.
