US Citizenship

Hello Guys,

Please shed some light on the time line for Maryland. How long does it take to become a citizen if you are a resident of Maryland?

Also, if you have been out of the country for 179 days (6 months) twice in the period of 5 years then will that create a problem at the time of filing for citizenship.

But there was gap between the trips. Stayed outside US for 6 months then came back and stayed in US and left again for 6 months.

Thanks.

Thanks for the replies. I live in Bethesda so in what district will my application be moved from Vermont Service Center.

Where will I have to go for FP and where will the FBI background check be done. I am eligible to apply in July. Getting excited.

Stayed outside US for 6 months then came back and stayed in US and left again for 6 months.

Did you stay in the US for 20 minutes, for 4 years, for something in between?

If you stayed outside of the US for less than 6 months, and then spent substantial time in the US before you left again, and you didn't show any signs of giving up your residency (taking a permanent job outside the country, filing non-resident US taxes (or not filing US taxes)), most of the time you should be OK (as I understand it).

I would stay in US for 6 months then left for 6 months and then stayed again in US for 6 months and left again. I have done that twice.

Another question, if I have also applied for Canadian PR will US immigr.be able to find that and if so will my citizenship get rejected once I am eligible to apply.

Thanks for your help

Under those circumstances (which were very similar to mine), I doubt you'll encounter any problems.

BTW, I got my citizenship through Baltimore DO last summer - total time approx 5 months. Check the Baltimore Tracker thread for current info.

Since "Attachment to the constitution" is one of the requirements for naturalization, I wouldn't point out that you applied for Canadian "landed immigrant" status. I don't think that they will find out, but no one really knows the ins and outs of the "name check" process -- you never really know.

If they do find out, when I am eligible to apply, what will be my options. Please let me know so I am prepared.

You think I should withdraw the application from Canada. Will that help me July once I am eligible for citizenship or will it make it worse.
