US citizen & Canadian citizen

Hello,

I am a Canadian citizen engaged to an American citizen. We are wanting to start our life together in the USA, but are unsure of the easiest, fastest way to do this - fiance versus spousal visa.

I am able to work in Canada while we wait for the visa paper work to go through, but we don't really want to wait 6-12 months if we don't have to. I would like to have the flexibility of travelling back and forth until I have some sort of visa allowing me to work.

I was reading others' threads on here - would the fastest way be for us to get married then have him apply for the spousal visa? Also, what is the CR1?

Thanks for any advice/help - much appreciated!

Fiance visa is the fastest due to being able to apply for the visa 'now' (provided you are free to marry) as opposed to having to wait for the marriage to take place before you can apply for the spousal visa.
Your fiance is also able to visit you in the US during the process.

Spousal visas on average take around a month longer than the fiance visa so theres another advantage to the K1.

CR1 is the name for a spousal visa.
