Transfer from H1B to TN

Hi all,

I am transferring my H1B status to TN due to change of job. My current job will be finished next Friday and the new job starts on the following Monday. I am planning to go through the Port of Entry to obtain my TN status next Friday. Will this be okay (since my last day of my current H1B visa is next Friday too)? Or should I wait until next Saturday to apply for the TN?

Also another question is if I am planning to apply for green card in US few years later, will this cause any problem due to the transfer from H1B to TN?

What you are planning is fine.

You could ask your new emplyer to file for H1 for you, but if TN is agreeble to both of you that is fine. Remember that you are still entitled to a total of six years (at least) on H1, so keep track of your actual time spent in h1 for future use.

Why would switching to TN cause you a problem? many prople get GC from TN status.
