Dear Ciba,

Yes I remember very well the Afrikaner and I remember some of the violent discussion he had with some odd guys on this newsgroup.
It was during the long backlog of 1996 it took three years to take my LC and everybody where struggling to interpeter what was going on in DOL of SF.

Srao I remember he organized a protest in SF office but only few people of this newsgroup show up there ...

I just want to say thank you to all people that reply back to my previous discussion.

Like Ciba I learn a lot of things about life during these years and one of the things I learned is that when you help other suffering people and you give instead only receive life turns better on you.

Ciba again I respect what you doing for the others please let me know how can I be helpful for you and the others in this newsgroup.

I\'m a software engineer like many others here and maybe I can share some of my hardware and software resource to give a better support to everybody.

Please let me know.

I apologize with everybody if I toke so long space in this discussion.

Best wishes to anyone.

Marcello,

I remember very clearly the protest organized by Srao. I
mentioned the protest last year twice but nobody seemed to
know anything about it. I am so glad to find a person who
remembers it. God, that was long time ago. At that time,
I was struggling at work and swamped with my own immigration
hassle.

I read the story on the internet about Srao\'s protest, and
felt terrible after knowing that only four or five people
showed up. Srao was very upset afterwards.

You are not taking any space here. We need someone like you
to help out. I am adding your case to the tracking list and
I am honored to have you on the list.

I do need someone to help me out in keeping up with the CSC
tracking website. DewDrop, slowpoke, and msmilo used to
share some tracking works with me. They were very helpful,
but have since all "graduated" from the tracking list.

It would be great if someone like you can help me with the
website. I have many ideas to improve the site so that we
can provide better service to CSC folks.

There is no hurry on this. I can still keep up with daily
development for the time being, but let\'s discuss what we
can do in more details for the next few weeks.

Ciba,

I would be very happy to help as well. I have DSL connection with 32 static addresses which I am planning to convert to 5 IP addresses.

I would be more than happy to host this website for you.

My experience is with Windows NT and 2000 and somehow I feel this discussion group is bulit on Linux platform. In any case, I will help all I can.

Thanks for your good work Ciba.

Of course Ciba ,

Tell me what to do and I\'ll do it.

I have DSL connection 732kb download 374 upload with two static ip address with SQL2000 Server on one machine (I know ... microsoft but is my job...) .

Maybe we can bring up something nice.

Let me know what you think .

Hi Dimpu and Marcello,

Wow you both sound like computer wizards (guru). To be honest
with your guys, I know every little about computers. :)
I have forced myself to learn some new stuff (Java, for example)
with little success.

Let\'s see. I think we should first discuss how to automate data
processing and what software/hardware are needed to do this. I
am more of a UNIX (Linux) person. As I understand it, it is better
to host the automation in a Unix system. Do you guys think we can
move the tracking webpage to one of your places? Geocities.com
where the webpage currently reside offers very limited features.
We cannot do automation there.

A CSC folk named Ravi is actually helping us with this. Ravi,
if you are reading this, could you also join the discussion? I
am sure we can do something to improve the tracking if we work
together.

Thanks so much for the help, Dimpus, Marcello, and Ravi.

What I can do is to setup a web domain on a Linux Machine or win2000 server and start designing the architecture , database .. and the way how to access data like EJB way or servlet way .

I\'m not a web designer I\'m lacking in that but if you give me an idea of what you want to do I can follow up with some prototype.

The next week I\'m be able to setup the web server and if you feel comfortable with linux I can setup a Linux machine with apache on it and gave you an administrator account , by the way Ihave Oracle too but I\'m not expert in the configuration. I can also setup an application server such as jrun 3.0 .

We can work togheter building this site with the some spirit of the Linux Project and then pass it on to the other sufferers.

Let me know what you think .

Good night

I am quite comfortable with server-side programming, i can help you design the architecture and do some servlet or ejb or jsp programming. We can start to do some functions first, for example, automate I485 data submission?

Hi bill2000(raj1555),

Thanks for offering the help. Since you seem very knowledgable on
server programming, could you describe what;s needed (in terms of
hardware/software setups) to Marcello so that he knows what to do
for us to do automation?

I actually have constructed a data registration form long time ago
and was planning to implement it, but I simply could not get it to
work at geocities.com. I asked Ravi (RK) to look into the problem.
He sent me an e-mail yesterday telling me that the problem is
most likely due to geocities.com, not the form I designed.

Would it be possible for you to also take a look at the form? I
will send you the URL if you can help us out. Thanks so much, bill!

Marcello, do you think the site you come up with will be reliable
enough to handle future traffic? I used to host the page at
another site (idk.com), but had to move out of there due to
constant traffic. While the features offered at geocities.com are
quite limited, it has been very reliable so far.

Ciba, Marcello and dimpu,

I think what Marcello described is enough for us to start: a Linux or NT server, an application server(Jrun), and a database(Oracle).

Here is my thought: we can have a servlet and some java beans (or one java bean for all information, gcBean? including everything for a gc process, pd, rd, nd, ap, ead, ad...) on the server side, and html pages (or jsp pages) on the browser side. I would avoid using EJB in this application (pro is to avoid making things complicated, con is that we need to write jdbc by ourself to access database).

what do you think? I am not a web designer either, so I can only make these html/jsp pages work, but cannot make them look nice-:(

ciba, you can send me email to blihue@hotmail.com. We probably could not make it as reliable as your geocities pages at the very beginning, but we will improve it. I think our ultimate goal is to make everything automatic, except starting the server. -:)

Thanks

bill

Sorry it took me so long to respond.

I am a Windows 2000 System administrator. I am not very good with Linux or Programming but I would still like to help.

Ciba, would you like to register a domain for the WebCSC form ?
I can do that for you. If you have a preference for the name , let me know.
Marcello and bill2000,

Pls send mail to my hotmail address (vidyats@hotmail.com) and I will take it up from there.

This is going to be fun !

Thanks

Marcello, bill2000, Dimpu, and Ravi,

I don\'t know everything about server, architecture, and such,
but I have a feeling that we should go for Linux instead of
NT server to make future automation easier.

Dimpu, registration form does not need a separate domain name.
However, I think Marcello would probably need to register a
name if he sets up something for us. We definitely need your
help.

bill2000, I sent you an e-mail with the sample registration
form. Could you kindly take a look?

Marcello, please let us know whether you could get things started
with such limited information.

Please take your time. There is no hurry for this. Like bill
said, we can improve the tracking little by little. Also, please
do so at your free time. We don\'t want to affect our regular
jobs at work. :)

Thanks so much, guys. It is going to be fun if we could all
work together and come up something.

Guys ,

I am glad to see this discussion . Even though I am in
sofware , I am afraid I have no experience in setting up the
   web stuff .

However I will be very glad to contribute financially for
   this noble cause .

Hey VSC007,

Thanks so much for the support. Since your case has been approved,
which usually means that you will soon get on your life and no
longer hang around on the discussion boards, how can we locate you
in case we need you "financially"? :)

I also would like to be part of this. I have recently implemented a project based on MVC (model, view, controller) and also developed custom tag libraries. Somebody has to come up with the requirements doc which I feel ciba would be the ideal person as he know what should appear etc. Ofcourse we can also contibute to the requirements doc. Also we need to identify the list of tasks and make a person responsible for task. I am not too concerned about OS right now as we will develop these using servlets, JSP and moving from one OS to another OS is simply setting up server side (Apache web server, Application server etc) Ofcourse initailly linux should be OK.
Guys let us take this project seriously and at the same time let us have fun and share our experience.

Hi!

If you can tell me the details , I can send my contribution
  now itself .
Or through a personal channel I can give you my conact address .

Hi VSC007,

I was just joking! Currently, CSC webpage at geocities.com
costs me only 15 dollors a month (which is nothing!). But I
think eventually we will need people\'s contributions once
Marcello sets up a system for us to work on.

I would like to keep in touch with you. Could you send a note
with your e-mail ID to me at ciba@idk.com? Thanks a lot. I
feel great that our effort on tracking immigration data is
supported by a nice people like you.
