Hello this might be a dumb question, I received my ssn today and it says VALID TO WORK ONLY, If i want to get a cell phone plan can i use this ssn or a credit card, do i have to wait to be a resident in order to do this since is only valid for work.
Thanks:confused:

Yes you can use that SSN to do everything a "regular" SSN can do.

A little advice now that you have a SSN:

Don't give that number away to anyone unless you absolutely have to. Seems like these days everyone asks for your social. But don't give it to them. If you want to get a credit card or cell phone, yeah you pretty much have to as they run a credit check.

But for other things you tell them no I will not give you the number. Doctors always ask. I always tell them you don't need it. And they don't. I've even seen a grocery discount card form ask for SSN. It's insane.

SSNs have become a lazy way for companies to identify you since SSNs are unique. And so everyone asks you for it. But unless you are getting a credit check done (and you should minimze those as well as they hurt your credit score each time they're done) just say no.
